Winter Is Coming: Are You Ready?
Like many of you, my hair care routine must be adjusted to accommodate low dew points and 30 degree weather. Gone are the days of the carefree wash and go’s and glycerin heavy products. Chicago winters can be so drying to the hair and skin, but I love this time of year! It’s time to rock cute hats, twist outs and up dos. It’s time for sweet-smelling, hair-protecting hair butters. What hair care changes are you making, in preparation for frigid temperatures? One (1) luck winner will receive a Slouchy Beanie, similar to the one shown above. A special thanks to Dotty @ Threadmill for donating the super cute hat! Use the form below, to enter the giveaway. Follow the instructions, and check your email! Giveaway ends Friday, 11/30/12 @ midnight (EST). Winner will be announced on Saturday, 12/1/12.

I’m deep conditioning more often to prepare my hair for the harsh cold weather.
I stick to butters in the winters months to keep the moisture locked in and wear flat twist up do styles with my ends tucked away.
More deep conditioning!
I switch out my products with humectants (glycerin, honey, etc.) for heavier products that provide more moisture. I also increase how much I deep condition, moisturize, and seal my hair to combat the elements.
Weekly deep conditioning and protective styles.
I started prepooing overnight, and deep conditioning weekly instead of once every 2 weeks
I use heavier products during the winter and I will do more protective styling and twist outs just to stretch my washing days. I will also increase my DCing to 2x a week.
I will be doing the KCCM challenge!
I already wear constant protective styles all year round due to my job but my biggest change in my hair regime during the winter months are my leave in conditioners and my styling aids. I tend to use thicker or heavier leave in conditioners that are more Shea butter based. And my stylers are about the same as my leave ins. I’ll use more shea butters, heavy creams and anything that will mositurize and allow me to not have to change out too much so my style last all week long and keeps its original shaping from the first day. I also tend to deep condition a lot more as well as steam a lot more. Trying to draw in more moisture is key. It’s like when folks don’t drink water on cold days: folks can still dehydrate when it’s cold. Our hair is the same. We have to make sure to continuously hydrate even if its not a hot day.
Protective Styles
More milks, oils, and buns ^_^
This winter I will be protective styling by keeping my hair in twist extensions, deep conditioning every wash (once a week), and slathering my hair with moisturizer to keep it from drying out.
I am deep conditioning once a week.
Deep conditioning and steaming are the only way to go for cold months along with more protective styling and fewer wash n go’s.
I am deep conditioning once a week.
I’m deep conditioning 2x a week because 98% of the time my hair is in a wash n go. I find this helps combat dry brittle hair.
This winter I will be PS;all winter long!Last winter was not cute!LOL!I will be using my same products;maybe adding more protein to my regimen.
More deep conditioning and using thicker butters to seal in the moisture.
I’m using thicker oils and stylers. I am also keeping my twists pinned up for the week.
This will be perfect for my no care winter hair!!! Protective styling is a must for me during the Fall/Winter season….and the neutral colors won’t clash with my outfits!
I’m definitely using heavier moisturizers, specifically butters and conditioners as leave-ins to keep the moisture in my hair.
I’m incorporating heavier moisturizers and moisturizing more often. I may also do more protective styling this winter.
Instead of wearing wng in the summer I now wear two strand or flat twists through out the week and wear release them for the weekend. I also pre-poo and steam before cleansing to help aid in keeping my hair moisturized.
I’ve changed my wash and conditioning routine to occur every two weeks and wear protective styles 100% of the time. When I wear beanies and slouchy hats ,I always wear a silk scarf underneath.
